The Way We Eat

Hi Suneeta,
The Pepper Chicken was “heaven” as Lonnie put it. We couldn't believe how delicious it was with what seemed like so few ingredients. We can't wait to try more of your recipes. I'm waiting for the catalog from Penzey's and I'm also checking out local stores for various spices.
We'll let you know how our journey into Indian cooking progresses.

August 2009 - Summer in India means lighter foods, and what could be more refreshing than a bowl of yogurt?
Yogurt salads or raitas, as they are called, run the gamut from the simplest, such as the Cucumber Raita on most restaurant menus, to ones with more interesting ingredients and complex seasonings. One thing that has not yet appeared in Indian markets - although I say this with some reservation, having recently seen an advertisement in an Indian periodical - is the sweetened fruity yogurt so popular in the west. Not that sweet yougurt is not popular in India. Usually it is homemade yogurt to which a little sugar is added to suit individual palettes. Sadly, that seems to be changing as western-style cups of fruit sweetened yogurts have recently appeared. However, I would encourage my readers to experiment and get creative with raita. Grated carrots, cooked cubed beets, roasted diced sweet potatoes etc. folded into yogurt and seasoned with your favorite spices are far more tasty and healthy too. Try it.
